Privacy Policy

Clear, straightforward privacy details for LiveMinyan users

Effective July 2026

LiveMinyan helps you find nearby shuls and minyan times, and lets shuls optionally broadcast live audio of their services to listeners. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

LiveMinyan is built to need as little of your personal information as possible. Here's everything it collects:

  • Device location — collected while you're using the app, only if you grant location permission, to find shuls and minyan times near you.

  • An anonymous session identifier — created automatically for every user on first launch, so the app works without requiring you to create an account.

  • Email address — collected only from shul broadcasters who choose to sign up, to sign in and verify they're authorized to broadcast on behalf of a specific shul.

  • Push notification token — collected only if you enable notifications, to alert you when a followed shul's minyan is starting.

We do not ask for your name, birthdate, contacts, photos, or any government ID. We do not use advertising trackers, and there is no third-party analytics SDK collecting behavioral data.

How We Use It

  • Location is sent to our servers only at the moment you open or refresh the Nearby/Shuls screens, to calculate distances and fetch relevant shul listings — it is not tracked in the background or logged with your identity attached.

  • Your anonymous session identifier lets features like "follow a shul" and "notify me" work without a traditional account. It is not linked to your name or email unless you separately create a broadcaster account.

  • A broadcaster's email is used solely for sign-in and to confirm they're authorized to broadcast on behalf of a specific shul.

  • Push tokens are used only to deliver the notifications you asked for (a followed shul going live, or a minyan starting soon).

Live Audio & Recording

LiveMinyan never records audio. When a shul broadcasts, audio streams live to listeners and is not stored, recorded, or made available for later playback — by us, by the shul, or by listeners. There is no replay feature. Once a broadcast ends, the audio is gone.

Live broadcasting is also automatically disabled during Shabbat and Yom Tov (from eighteen minutes before candle-lighting until havdalah), enforced on both the app and our servers, so the feature can't be used in a way that would violate Shabbat observance.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes. We use a small number of service providers to run the app, each only for the specific job below:

  • Supabase — our backend database, authentication, and server functions.

  • LiveKit — the real-time audio infrastructure that carries a live broadcast from a shul's device to listeners' devices.

  • Expo — delivers app updates and push notifications.

  • GoDaven — an external, independent directory of shul and minyan-time information that LiveMinyan queries to show listings; we send it your approximate coordinates or search text to fetch results, not your identity.

We may disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the safety of our users.

Retention & Deletion

Anonymous session data (like which shuls you follow) is kept for as long as the app is installed on your device, or until you delete it yourself from within the app. Broadcaster account data is kept until the account holder asks us to delete it. To request deletion of any data tied to your account, contact us below.

Your Choices

  • Location access can be turned off at any time in your device's Settings — search still works by typing a shul name, city, or ZIP code.

  • Notifications can be turned off in your device's Settings.

  • Broadcasters can request account deletion at any time (see Contact, below).

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we'll do our best to make sure it's easy to notice, such as an in-app notice.
